From demarcation…

► ALPHACTION was established in France in 2007.

► ALPHACTION is the only independent, international Non-Government Organisation (NGO) that is solely dedicated to awareness raising and advocacy activities in support of literacy.

► In general, literacy is a secondary focus for organisations working towards these same goals; or alternatively these organisations focus on particular geographic areas. Whilst recognising the importance of adopting a holistic approach to education and development in general, literacy needs to become a priority in development policy because it can bring multiple benefits and because it has been neglected as an important issue over many years.

► ALPHACTION’s work concerns all countries in the world. There is no North-South divide. In every country there are citizens who do not have access to quality literacy, whether they be in France, Mali or as far away as China.

… to a common action

► ALPHACTION seeks to demonstrate the value of united action so that literacy becomes a priority development policy.

► To contribute significantly to this cause, we must work with all organisations, near and far, that are concerned by literacy issues. The only limitation would be that this collaboration would bring into question the organization’s values.
